New to mountain biking? New to the area? This is a great way to learn new skills, hone old ones, meet new friends, try new trails and just get out and ride.

This is the place where beginners to the sport can come to get lessons in the basic skills involved in safe riding and proper trail etiquette. You'll learn to ride prepared, responsibly, and skillfully. Basic off-road riding techniques will be demonstrated and practiced in a relaxed, positive environment. Not only do we teach you how to handle your bike but we show you what to expect on the trails and how to handle interactions with other trail users.

We start with a short discussion of responsible riding, practice a few skill-building drills on the bikes, and finally take a short ride with some hills. I hope you'll take away some lessons to practice, a feeling of improvement, and enjoy a nice bike ride!

The pace and technical rating of the ride are beginner -- no pressure here! Some participants have never ridden off-road, some just want a slow ride, or a refresher. All are welcome.

When / How to Attend

Please check the calendar for specific dates. If you would like to attend the class, please RSVP the instructor. This is not a large class; student attendance varies from 1-6 people, but there is no "cap" on class size. Repeat attendance is welcomed. Please contact Mike Gracy, or call 925-459-5026.

You must bring a helmet, a bicycle in good working order, and water. We try to supply Cliff bars and Sobe drinks from our sponsors, but I can't guarantee this. So, a snack to munch on during the ride isn't a bad idea. The class is free, but we certainly welcome donations to our organization. A $25 donation supports BTCEB advocacy efforts and programs like this class -- plus you get a year's membership to a great mountain bike club!

A Few Rules Must be Observed

All riders must wear a helmet.
Bring water and some energy food (Power Bars, Clif Bars, etc).
Rain the day of or before may cancel the class.
